Okoroire and Rotorua
Wednesday 7th May
A foggy start to the day leaving Te Aroha.
The memorial for the NAC DC3 ZK AYZ which, as flight 441,
crashed on the Kaimai Range at 9.07 am on 3 July, 1963,
killing all 3 crew and 20 passengers. The visibilty was similar to this and there were severe winds. It
was thought that the pilot had started his descent in to Tauranga having
mistakenly calculated that he had already crossed the Kaimais. His last
call to Tauranga was at 9.06 requesting permission to land in two minutes.
There was no reply when Tauranga called him at 9.08.
Sun's out again, time for a lunch stop.
All steamed up at the Okoroire pool.
