Hello ACTA riders, On Friday 29 May the limit on group gatherings under Lockdown Level 2 will be raised from ten people to one hundred. This will allow us to resume our normal program of rides on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays.  In the next day or two Bruce Rankine will restore the ride program details on our website, so you will be able to look there for up-to-date information about our rides. Social distancing will still be required in cafes for some time. It will look very bad if 20 or more ACTA riders crowd into a cafe with the hubbub of conversation which we have been used to in the past.  Therefore we will plan only to use cafes for morning tea on those rides which usually attract small groups. When larger groups are expected we will bring a thermos and snacks from home, and find a convenient park for morning tea. Small-group rides are all Saturday and Sunday rides, plus Wednesday rides starting at Papakura. These rides will visit cafes for morning tea. On Wednesdays and Sundays, bring lunch from home as usual. Large-group rides are Wednesday rides from Kumeu, Riverhead, and the Ferry Building downtown. Folk on these rides should bring morning tea from home. It might be possible to purchase take-aways during the ride, but bear in mind that the park chosen for morning tea might not be close to a cafe or dairy. The meeting place at Kumeu will be in the carpark outside the Bakehouse Cafe, not in the cafe itself; and at Riverhead, the footpath outside the Beekeeper’s Wife Cafe. On all rides, be sure to sign the ride register and provide a phone number, in case it is needed for contact tracing. Here are ride details for the next ten days.Saturday 30 May, 9.00am. Stuart Andrews will lead the coffee ride, starting at the carpark behind Bakers Delight on the corner of Remuera Rd and Victoria Ave, Remuera.Sunday 31 May, 9.00am. John McLean will lead a ride around Bombay and Hunua, starting at Ron Keat Drive near the Papakura Railway Station.Wednesday 3 June, 9.30am. Since this is the first Wednesday of the month, there will be two rides. Colin Quilter will lead one from the Ferry Building, Downtown, to the Cascades Path in Pakuranga and to Musick Point. Ray Mankelow will lead a ride out west starting at the Kumeu Bakehouse Cafe. Happy cycling! Colin QuilterACTA Secretary26 May 2020
