ACTA – Administration

Email Dated 13 May 2020

Hello ACTA riders,

On May 14 New Zealand will drop to Level 2 of the government’s Covid 19 response strategy. With this in view the ACTA committee met on Tuesday evening (May 12) to discuss whether, and when, to resume our regular Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday rides. We could see no difficulty in complying with social distancing requirements (1-metre spacing between friends); and any problems with access to cafes could be solved by bringing a thermos from home. However the ten-person limit on group size presented more of an issue. We discussed splitting large groups into smaller ones on the spot, each group departing along a different route or at staggered times. We also thought about setting up an online booking system so that group size could be controlled on a first-come, first-served basis. However it is possible – and, we hope, likely – that the ten-person limit might only apply for a fortnight or so. All going well the country might drop quite soon to a Level below 2, where larger groups are permitted. When that happens we should be able to resume our usual rides with only minor constraints. Therefore we decided to delay a resumption of our regular rides at least for the next couple of weeks. In the meantime we hope that you are all enjoying regular rides, either alone or with friends. If you want company while riding, go to the Members Only page on the ACTA website (username member, password noquestion) where there is a spreadsheet of ACTA members with their contact details. Phone or email a few to form a small group. Alternatively, anyone seeking a cycling companion is free to email me and I’ll put together a list of those looking for company and email it out to all members. Tell me how you want to be contacted, and where in Auckland you usually cycle. Best wishes, Colin Quilter
